Director Olga Lapina, who has received two golden stage awards, and Keistuolių theatre actors, through the tales and short stories of Miloš Macourek, open the door to an extremely fragile and sensitive world - the first steps of a child in school experienced in a new and unfamiliar system. Czech writer, author of legendary tales about Boniface's holiday and a hippopotamus that is afraid of vaccinations, M. Macourek testifies in his works that the privilege and fundamental right of the child is his fantasy - a natural creative force. The writer's texts from children's literature are distinguished by unconventional images, playfully absurd story decisions and characters unexpected to the adult eye, which with the performance "The Long Break" move to the stage of Keistuolių theatre. On stage, the revived works are linked by one theme - arrival to the first grade. What happens to a young person who experiences a 180 degree change of the environment and system where he has lived under until now? The creative team of the performance is looking for the answer to this question using abstract space, aesthetics and searching for childish logic, language and connection of relationships. "The most valuable thing we discovered in M. Macourek creativity is the huge respect for the child's inner world. The performance reminds the audience that being in the school system cannot destroy the curious, inventive, imaginative nature of a young person - after all, when he comes to school, the child experiences a constant conflict between how he should look and behave and how he imagines himself. With the "The Long Break" we continue M. Macourek tradition and perform a sort of theatrical study of the inner world of the child," director Lapina shared her thoughts. "The Long Break" is a performance not only for pupils that are discussed on the stage; this is a piece for all the people, parents and teachers around them, revealing an imaginative world that is constantly changing in the eyes and thoughts of the child - completely different from what we see through the eyes of an adult. At the same time, it is a performance for anyone who has at least once experienced what it means to step out of their safe and somewhat fantastic world into a big, otherworldly and frightening school life. Performance for children on a small stage The performance for the whole family "A Chick and A Rooster" is a modern interpretation of a well-known story which was turned into a game. How to tell a fairy tale? Can it be changed? Can traditional fairy tale heroes be helped by modern items? Can the old as the world question have a new answer? Could a rooster fly into space with a samurai sword and a Chick's eye be protected with a pair of sunglasses? Stage designer and costume designer Ramunė Skrebūnaitė realized her dream during the years of her studies - to create a performance in which the objects that come to life would expand the space of adventure and become important participants in events. Here a girl and a boy fight for their right to believe in such a fairy tale as they remember. But playing alone is not engaging. So for the sake of a common game, children start looking for a compromise. On this road to friendship, one learns creatively about forgiveness, selflessness, and other things that are important not only to children. "In the performance two adult people laugh and cause mischief as freely as children," says actor Viola Klimčiauskaitė, while her colleague Dalius Skamarakas adds: "The messages life-changing truths conveyed to children in the form of a game are often relatively more accessible, as they manage to find way to their hearts faster." Vivacious music by Andrius Kulikauskas, simple and sincere lyrics of songs will engage even the youngest viewers, while older children will willingly participate in advising heroes in the face of challenges. Keistuolių theatre performances for children are always distinguished by the fact that they have no "fourth wall" - the actors and the children watching them are not separated by an invisible barrier, and every word spoken by the little spectator creates a further mood of the performance. Parents who bring their children to this dynamic, fun and cozy performance will be able to remember once again how magic, enormous and colourful the world of every child is, even the one that lives within us. Do you think it’s actors repeating their lines over and over like mantras in the deepest nooks of their theatre behind closed doors, the director speaking in an authoritative tone, costumes made ready as if by magic, and a pensive composer working on the soundtrack? Nothing of the kind. Three actors, one playwright, one table and three chairs—welcome to the process of producing a play. Where does art come from? What makes creative work and death alike? What are the stories theatre tells and how? Critics in art websites, viewers in the theatre cloakroom, directors interviewed in shows on culture would say “its stories cover anything and everything”. Yet our play is about nothing. The play About Nothing, written and directed by Linas Jurkštas, is a comic, absurd and rowdy caricature of art, a self-ironic spotlight on creators. In a single evening, viewers see the actors in action from their first reading of the play to the day of the premiere; they see both the making-of of a performance and a story about a young man who has challenged Death, with a hint of the Italian commedia dell’arte. About Nothing is a peek at what happens behind the scenes with the creative process this time presented right there on the stage. It is a playful provocation and a deft balancing act where nonsense meets existential questions. Director, playwright: Linas Jurkštas Cast: Danas Kamarauskas, Jurgis Marčėnas, Gabrielius Zapalskis, Birutė Belada Tauterytė/Viola Klimčiauskaitė. Bisset (1910-1955) was a famous English writer, actor, creator of TV shows, author of cartoon scripts. He was a legendary English writer, who created more than forty books for children. Written in the style of nonsense, the fairy tales flickered with all sorts of oddities and surprises, causing the readers to laugh and wonder, because the ingenious author portrays the ordinary world in a frivolous, "upside-down" way. His short and strange tales were reborn in the first productions of Keistuolių theatre performances for children - "Next Time" and "Upside Down". Everyone is already familiar with the snail Olaiva, the piglet who wanted to fly, the raven Albertina, the angry uncle, the grasshopper Sandy and many other characters, but there are still a lot of weird fairy tale residents who want to make friends with children. So, geese William, ant Marta will share their strange stories and adventures, cow Taškė will perform a song of her own making while a beetle and bulldozer named Bačas will show off his endurance. With a team of young actors, the director will try to transform the unexpected Bisset's fairy tales into an unforgettable musical journey that will be open to both children and adults. After all, we all sometimes miss miracles or songs, we all hide from strange fears or look for new friends. That is what goose Willie also wondered about: "How amazing would it if someone told tell me "Beep Beep!" The pigeons cooed, the ducks quaked, and the crows clucked from the top of the trees. But no one, absolutely no one said to him: "Beep Beep." Actors: Judita Urnikytė, Danas Kamarauskas, Mantas Zemleckas, Jonas Šarkus, Jurgis Marčėnas, Gelminė Glemžaitė. Musical performance for children Told according to the motives of Lyman Frank Baum story "Wizard Of Oz" "Yellow Brick Road" is a completely new production of the well-known Keistuolių theatre play "Sorcerer of the Emerald City". The performance, which has been on the stage for 11 years, was reborn after five years in whole new colours, with completely different actors, with a different name but unforgettable songs and undeniable truths, because as many actors from Keistuolių theatre say, "The most important thing is to see miracles in simple things!" This story began when one little girl named Dorothy got tired of everything: houses, books and even toys. Then a huge storm, caused by the evil sorceress Gingema, flew the girl from her native Kansas to a distant, mysterious and unfamiliar country. But it is written in the magic book: "The little girl that was brought to the Wonderland by a hurricane will be brought home by the Great Wizard of the Emerald City if she fulfills the holiest desires of three creatures.” Meanwhile, the winding Yellow Brick Road, which is full of surprises and dangers, led to the city of Emerald... If you are curious and brave, you are not afraid of witches and sorcerers, we invite you to travel with Dorothy over the Yellow Brick Road "to the city of Dreams, where emeralds sparkle." Then you will see for yourselves whether the little girl managed to reach the Emerald City, and you will find out whether Dorothy returned to her native home safe and sound. And we wish that your holiest desires and most beautiful dreams come true. "It's all about just wanting, trying, and believing." "Grumbler Noble" is a performance by the founder, actor and director of Keistuolių theatre Aidas Giniotis for the little ones, which preserves the best Keistuolių theatre traditions of children's performances and invites viewers to delve into the imaginative story of the Lithuanian nobleman taking an odyssey around the world. As in many other children's productions of Keistuolių theatre, "Grumbler Noble" features songs performed by talented and well-known actors, and the engaging vivacious story leaves no small viewer without a smile. This performance is a continuation of the trilogy of Giniotis' children's trilogy based on Lithuanian folk motifs. After more than a decade, "Grumbler Noble" joins the "Jonas Soldier", which appeared on the stage of Keistuolių theatre in 1993, "Mykolas the Fisher", which came later, and "Juzė the Sponger, which appeared in the theatre in 2002. Like previous performances, "Grumbler Noble" is a story about a special man with a special name, which became for him a sign of fate and determined his further life. One day, a prominent Noble which lived in a Lithuanian village realized that his native land is too small and too bleak: neither houses, nor fields, nor people seem to match his noble origin. The only way out is to go to the wide world and find a decent profession that is appropriate to a person as prominent as himself. By passing through towns and villages, overcoming the widest seas, visiting the most remote corners, the Noble got to meet the most interesting and strangest people, but he does not succeed in discovering his main goal - his true vocation. It is only when the whole world is measured in steps and upon return to the Lithuanian land it becomes clear to the Noble that the most noble and heart-sweetest land is not abroad, but in his own village with his friends and neighbours.
